Well, yeah, they're pointless remakes of classic animation. They aren't allowed to be innovative, but they aren't allowed to be direct copies either, so they just end up bland and muddled. Maleficent was slightly better in that it had an independent story, but even then it wasn't great.

I keep thinking that they are essentially higher-budgeted analogues to the cheap direct-to-video sequels and prequels Disney cranked out in the late 90s-mid 2010s, and serve much the same function: to keep a hold on IP until the company can somehow extend copyright to the heat death of the universe.
