Whales in mobile gaming is used to refer to people who drop inordinate amounts of money in the game to have all the best characters, abilities, and equipment. You can spot a potential whale if they have a recently released character already maxed out with all the best gear. It’s not always an indicator cause some people are really dedicated to the grind, but its usually more likely than not that they’re a whale.

I’ve seen developers use the phrase going whaling to mean encouraging high spenders to spend even more money. Or something like that. It was in a Stephanie sterling video if you’re into their stuff.

Unsurprisingly, the term is a carry-over from the gambling industry.
