You might have actually meant “I’m not sad that new generations won’t have cultural icons like The Simpsons, because I don’t like it”.

My reply meant that it was not a universal generational cultural reference. I don't think any piece of media can be that. My school (of 2k+ kids) had one person that would try to talk about it, but no one else was ever interested. They did reference Friends, but it faded away pretty quickly.

I think, out of a school of 2k+ kids, one is not "universal".
