I actually enjoy the story in general. Some aspects or chapters more than others, of course. At 10 hours in you're probably still in the prologue and it still feels kinda...generic? Around then? (though later maybe you will look back and be like, "wait...they were hinting at [x] even then?")

It stays pretty free-to-play friendly. All content in the game can be completed by the characters you get as you go along. You don't have to spend money to get the latest and greatest characters or weapons just to be able to move forward or anything like that. I won't say I've never spent any money on the game but it's a pretty tiny drop in the bucket and was mostly because at some point I started thinking about how many hours I'd put into the game compared to AAA games I'd played and figured if I was willing to spend $60 on a game with a defined ending I could only play for so long, I should be willing to chip something in on a game with continuously updated content that I could spend many more hours of time on getting enjoyment out of.

+1 to all of this! I ended up making a deal with myself to buy a Welkin Moon for each nation as it's released. Which I think considering the several hundreds of hours of play I've already got from the game, is a pretty good deal.

But I've never been in a position where I felt like I really needed to spend any money. Everything (except some cosmetics) is attainable through just playing the game. And eventually you'll probably get to a point, as I have, where you're happy with the characters and teams you've built and you don't feel drawn to roll for new characters anymore.
