Wrt keeping up with the characters: don't. Most of them won't be relevant to you, especially if you're only 10 hours in (as the upgrade materials for most non-Mondstadt based characters won't be available to you until much later in the game). Focus on learning the mechanics of the characters you have and use events where you get to try out new characters to discover which characters you'll want to roll for.

Watching videos and looking up team guides is the best way to learn about what teams work well, but if you don't want to do that, just try out different combos of the characters you have. Learning about the different elemental reactions will help. Actually, I'd recommend trial and error anyway even if you do look up some guides, as you might find a team that works for you that isn't commonly recommended. Eg. Yanfei/Fischl is not a combo I see recommended a lot, but they've carried me through almost 300 hours of this game and I'm still using them regularly.

Oh, and don't worry about artifacts until you reach Liyue at the VERY earliest. Early game you don't need them at all and the system can get very complex for very little trade off. Later on it becomes more worth it and it will also be less overwhelming because you'll be more familiar with the combat mechanics and able to better understand what it all actually means.

Probably the Yanfei/Fischl combo doesn't get recommended a lot is because a lot of people recommend teams almost solely with Spiral Abyss in mind and the Overloaded reaction tends to send enemies away from you so you end up wasting time chasing after them.

As someone who doesn't care much about the Abyss, I think watching enemies go boom like that is rather satisfying. :)

Yeah that would make a lot of sense. I barely touch Spiral Abyss these days, I forget it's even there half the time, so my teams are definitely not optimized for it!
