I'm the subthread OP and I gotta admit, I'm baffled by that over the top response. They literally don't have the rights to the Silmarillion, which describes events in this time period in more detail. So they have to make up a different story. So they're two pretty separate canons. It HAS to be much less book-canon compliant than the LOTR movies were, and I knew that going in. I'm enjoying this aspect of the show because it means I can still be surprised.

Somebody's knee really jerked and kicked over something, lol.
