I kinda feel you and I sorta blame this on the fact that a lot of Fincher directed films feel very naturalistic (even with Sorkin writing) that I think oscar voters feel like the actors are doing "less". Like if you look at which of his films have gotten acting nods it's either for some degree of transformation (GWTDT and Gone Girl) or some degree of imitation (Mank).

Yes, but the Oscar doesn't usually go to the "best" performance, it goes to the performance that most appeals to the Oscar voters at that moment. It might be a good performance anyway, but there's so many other factors, from Harvey Weinstein's outright bribery to advertising to past performances, to if they think it's "earned", or novelty, or buzz, or transformation of the character etc. etc.
