[Star Trek: First Contact]

This was the scene that made me decide not to watch any more Star Trek movies because it so was so dreadful. Not just stupid titillation for the sake of it, but genuinely insulting to Data and to the concept of the Borg.

This scene was terrible. But I still think First Contact is the best Trek movie. THe rest of it, other than this scene, is just so good.

AYRT There were other things in it that I liked, such as the Vulcan First Contact! And this scene was definitely the worst, but it was all just so patchy and action-oriented and jingoistic.

And I'm honestly glad because FC usually gets held up as an example of "good" Star Trek movies and I usually feel very lonely in my dislike of it.

The thing is that it's bad conceptually for what it does with Data and the Borg, and it's also bad because it decided that the right way to translate Star Trek to the screen is by making Star Trek into an action blockbuster flick. And I just totally fundamentally disagree with that and I think it's a really bad decision for Star Trek as a franchise.

star trek as a franchise has been very little but bad decisions for at least three decades now

That's definitely not true

i get not liking the notion of the borg having a queen but how is it insulting to data

pretty much from minute one his entire character was built around a drive to understand and experience humanity

Alice Krige was hot as hell as the Borg Queen.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's true.

I’m not familiar with the canon and only know who one of those people is but I feel extremely intrigued anyway.

I was fine with the titillation factor, because I found it hot.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-01 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Same, tbh.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-01 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
+1 It was ridiculously hot to me!
