I have nothing to add to this except Yay Sharpe! \0/

Being historically accurate costs a lot of time and effort, and doesn't have any effect on how much 95% of the audience enjoys it.

Yeah, sadly true. Once creators realize that most people wouldn't know what's historically accurate if it bit them on the butt and if they did, they wouldn't care... well, no need to go through all the expense and trouble.

Because research is hard.

It helps that the source novels for Sharpe were good on history to begin with.

I always appreciate Bernard Cornwell's author notes. He seems to really have a genuine respect for history and for his readers.

Yeah, I think the fact that the show comes from an already very well-researched source helps a lot. You can see that in some of the episodes where they got a bit more creative, and it starts getting wild. (Thinking of Sharpe's Gold, specifically, the one with the... hearts being cut out?! Whow, I did not remember it being that weird.)

Because capitalism is getting more and more extreme, and historical accuracy costs money.

But yay for hot Sean Bean picture, thanks OP.

I'd put Boardwalk Empire in those categories mostly.
