I totally agree. But then, one of my favourite episodes is "Spock's Brain", simply for how hard it makes me laugh.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-05 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Spock's Brain is the good kind of bad, it is at least entertaining in its goofiness.

+1000
pantswarrior: Remote-control Vulcan? BEST CHRISTMAS EVER! (oh-em-gee!)

Yes. That is one I will just watch every time it's on.

"WE MUST FIND SPOCK'S BRAIN"
"BUT WHERE, JIM?! WHERE WILL WE FIND SPOCK'S BRAIN?!"

(Anonymous) 2022-11-05 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Brain and brain! What IS brain?!" will get to me every time.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-06 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao sometimes my husband and I shout that at each other: BRAIN??? WHAT IS BRAIN????

And now I do, too!

It isn't just Star Trek right now, every single fandom seems to revolt against the possibility of any silliness. Why a bit of silliness is the enemy, who knows? Must everything always be serious business all the time?

(Anonymous) 2022-11-05 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, IAWTC. Sigh.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-05 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, there's always been a lot of overly serious fans who hate any hint of fun. Cf grognards and sercons.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-05 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I love and rejoice in it with you, OP.

I'm forever mad at how much Star Trek has made vulcan culture so bland post TOS (did we learn nothing from how dramatic everything is there? Sure they're logical - but look at T'Pring's hair game, the robes, the traditions!

But then everyone was like 'They all have the same bangs and sleep on blank bricks' and honestly I'm squinting the hardest at Enterprise here.
I want the highest branch of campy designs for vulcans, I demand it - I am willing to go full Karen here dammit!

(Anonymous) 2022-11-05 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
In general, post-TOS got away from the cheesy OTT science fiction weirdness and aesthetics and that's a shame (really it started with the TOS movies already)

I blame Nicholas Meyers.

Camp is amazing and more shows should embrace it.
