Are they notably worse than societies that aren't elves? (I feel like being immortal and magic probably gives you an unfair advantage in that sort of thing.)

It's a plot point that people who are injured or sick often get left behind to die when they make their big nomadic journeys. We never see Elves or Dwarves or humans doing that.
