I've made this vent post about twitter and that I am loosing the only comfortable platform for uploading my art. Because I like a bit of attention and I only get it on twitter.
And my mutual who is also an artist made post just after that she doesn't need validation to make art. GOOD FOR YOU. And I need validation and there is nothing wrong with it. No, I am not going to do art for art's sake that's alienating and makes me depressed. I am human and we are fucking social.
This fucking Artists who going to Art because it's their Calling are getting on my nerves. Good for you, frankly, but not all of us like this

That is annoying. What kind of person responds to someone unhappy that the platform that gives them the motivation to make art is changing for the worse and deteriorating with “real artist do it for the art, not for the attention!”. That’s such a rude and pretentious thing to say. It’s like you said, some artists do only care about making art, not getting validation. But not everyone is like that, and what’s wrong with wanting people to appreciate your art? Nothing.

I know, right? I don't think she was exactly vagueing about me, but it was obvious that this post was inspired. Yeah, yeah, her art will survive through anything. My probably wouldn't.

I'm so sorry about your friend's response. I hope you'll keep getting people interacting with your works, no matter the platform.

In terms of artists' motivations/validation, it's taken me a long time to understand that not all artists are seeking for the same thing and it's not OK to apply your personal philosophies/truths onto others.
But you know, I don't think a lot of artists/people in general have that nuance. It's something I'm learning to live with.

Heh, yeah. I think...some people (not all) who say that are lying through their teeth, and only say it because they DO get attention/validation via others. If nobody paid attention to them, I think they'd quit or do something more mainstream or whatever they had to to get some attention. (Again - not all, but some, for sure.)

Are you leaving Twitter? I'm over there (non-fandom), and I'm staying. I think it's either going to go down in flames or Musk is going to have to back off and act like a semi-normal human and/or it'll go bankrupt and someone else will buy it. But I'm not leaving any time soon, if only for ghoulish voyeur reasons.

I hope you can find another venue for your art!

Yeah. Some people be like "I don't need validation" and have a pretty solid following, or have RL friends or family who are into their stuff. And some people are like me and do not have a robust support to fall to.
I am still on twitter, sort of. But I had to cut my usage before Musk... everything for other reasons so I have to find something different soon enough

Yeah. It's just not really all that fun to put stuff out there and not get anything back. I get that 100%.
