I usually vote the same way, but for moral reasons. Don't think I've ever let fandom influence my voting before.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like a good way to vote, but a terrible reason for your reason. Like, if you were a Law and Order fan, would it mean you voted for the prosecutors instead?

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah exactly, this. Basing your voting on fandom is ludicrous, and dangerous.

I admit I also have this bias. My state apparently prevents judicial candidates from being candid (I know why but like????? judges rarely recuse themselves for bias anyway, and attorneys regularly strategize depending on what judges they get because judges aren't exactly subtle, you might as well let people be for real!!!!), so if I know basically nothing and I have to choose, public defender all the way.

also the state next to me ran ads where a republican judge and a democratic district attorney were both like "we ~both~ agree bail reform SUCKS!" /paraphrase and i did call the DA two-face under my breath.

The state of crime and justice/police system discourse in society is genuinely maddening, it's like secret arcane Cthulhu knowledge levels of mindbreaking at this point. Eeven aside from any ideological beliefs about the institution of policing in general, and even aside from any considerations about race that might play into irrational prejudices, the way people talk about crime, police and the justice system is just completely and totally divorced from reality and yet everyone goes along with it and you get punished for not going along with it. It's genuinely a form of mass delusion.

yeah, the conversation is entirely vibes. it's safety theater, we're playing the crucible 24/7, and that's partially why people can outright lie about what's happening.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a strong argument that this is the correct choice

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
If you had no other information about the candidates and HAD to vote, this would be a reasonable choice.

But in a world where information is so easily accessible and voting is voluntary, this is pretty dumb. At least confirm your fandom bias before going to the polls!

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Basing your voting choices on fictional characters is idiotic.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine as long as your choice happens to be the right one

(Anonymous) 2022-11-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt

What if they get into a different fandom and change their minds?

I agree OP is making the right choice in this case, but it's a pretty dumbass reason. If it's really their reason at all, of course...!

Electing judges is just mind-boggling to me!
