I have never seen this and my friends that love vampire films keep recommending this to me.

It's a great film! Beautiful and atmospheric. The only issue is the rights to it are tied so the blu-ray goes for a ton of money used and it shows up sporadically on streaming and only for a brief amount of time.

It might still be streaming on the Criterion Collection in their '80s Horror section.

Part of the appeal for me is that Mae is the vampire and Caleb is a perpetual damsel in distress.

Mae would be pretty hot with a dick. A lot of her lines would hit different too and that bar dance scene where she offers Caleb her 'prey' becomes even better with an added bisexual twist.
