I can kind of relate to this, because I usually prefer non-canon ships - they feel like they offer more freedom and chance to explore.

I agree. Sometimes they pull it off, but often a ship becoming canon ruins it (House/Cuddy, Bones/Booth, I'm looking at you).

Yes, so much yes to both your examples. (Yes, I'm still butthurt about them both.)

Agreed so hard.

I think sometimes fic writes my favorite pairings better than the show does, so I 100% get you Nonny.

+1

Exactly why I just prefer my ships to stay fic-side. No need to bring it into canon. Rarely have any of my ships ever been canon.

I feel you, especially on the fridging. Ugh :(

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, which is why I don't get fandom's current fixation on their ships being made canon*. I'd much rather have UST than mediocre canon compared to my imagination or fanfic.

(* Well, I do understand that it's a convenient cudgel to use in arguments.)

My mind leaps to Love Never Dies. lol

I had a ship go canon recently and it was so damn unsatisfying that I wish it hadn’t gone canon at all.

So true. Currently going through it as my main ship is canon-adjacent and has some degree of backing that could make it happen.
