I like harems and moresomes as a trope, regardless of the genders involved. But it bugs the hell out of me that in the publishing world, when it is a woman with multiple male partners, it is called a reverse harem. Reverse what? No. A harem is a harem regardless of the genders.

To me, this is the same as a 'man bun' or 'guyliner'. Why are you GENDERING something that is completely a - without gender and b - the EXACT SAME no matter who is wearing it?
Grrrr.

Not every man with a bun has a man bun. That's a specific look. The name's still dumb though.

If you say so. It all looks the same to me.

What's the difference between a bun on a man and a man bun?

A bun is a category of hairstyle and a man bun is a specific subcategory. So, a man could wear a ballet bun or chignon or Princess Leia buns and those would all be buns on a man. But let's say you're a guy and someone is styling your hair for a photo or an acting gig or whatever. And you say you want a man bun. You're not getting a ballet bun or a chignon or Princess Leia buns unless the stylist is trolling you. You're going to walk out of there with some variety of man bun.

But ... you still haven't explained to us what that IS. Just that it isn't any of these (more elaborate?) hairstyles.

DA - I don't really do hair. But if a guy can have a chignon and that's not a man bun despite being a bun on a man, then I guess a man bun has to be something.

What is not clicking? It's particular hairstyle. Is it stupid that we gender hairstyles? Yes.
But still when people say malebun it's this particular look. Also usually it's a bit of stereotype used to describe group of men.

See, that one doesn't bug me, because I like reading stories where the multiple partners are men. And trying to find those stories is like finding a needle in a haystack if you don't have a specific term for it. They are in the vast minority, compared to one-man-pile-of-sexy-ladies stories, in my experience. I didn't even know harems revolving around women were an established, published trope until I started reading translated manga.

I think it's more a thing to help you search for what you want better exclusively. We all know it's actually just a harem. But it's a "reverse harem" in that it reverses what the roles usually are (a woman surrounded by men instead of a man surrounded by women).

It's even worse trying to find gay harem stuff. It's like... Do I look up gay harem? Gay reverse harem? WHAT TERMS DO I USE, I STILL END UP WITH CHICK+21938219 DUDES.
