I can understand this. Sometimes stuff is very satisfying in fiction even when real life doesn’t work that way. One of my favorite tropes in fiction is similar: “Person miserable over unrequited crush finds out the other person actually has feelings for them too.” Whereas in real life it’s more like “They’re just not into you. Move on with your life.”

OP - Yeah, unrequited pining (that's actually not unrequited at all) is an absolute staple in most of my favorite fanfics.
