I knew there was going to be at least one of you overly judgmental people when I saw the secret.

They might have put that cuttingly, but ... I scrolled by several times tonight without saying anything about this secret, because I detest it when fans treat someone else getting attention as "they're stealing the attention that would otherwise rightfully be mine." So, I would like to say "nice for you, OP" but when what they essentially said is "there was one person at the top of the heap in my fandom, and when they did something unethical and left, I became the person at the top of the heap in my fandom! :)" it just sticks in my throat.

My fandoms are not shapeless piles of nobodies presided over by petty fandom rulers. And in my experience, the people who think that's how they work (or should) tend to be ... unpleasant.

Personally, I don't care for the lack of sensitivity toward the readers, but it just sounds like they're enjoying the redirection of attention. It's possible they are unpleasant, or maybe this is just the one place they can feel comfortable in fandom space.

I can understand your point of view, it’s reasonable. And I would find myself agreeing completely normally. Especially when it comes to not having much sympathy for the people who lost beloved fic, probably for good. I agree with you there for sure; happiness that you have more attention shouldn’t come before that. I just didn’t get that OP was the new top of the heap from the secret. It sounds like their fic is just getting more attention now with the power vacuum, so to speak. And I assume that many other smaller fic writers in the fandom are also getting attention for the same reason. I just didn’t get the vibe that OP is the new BFN, much less that they’re lording over people like some do. I could be wrong.
