I got that way over a male character once. I'm not going to lie, I shipped his (female) love interest with someone else. But my main problem with him was that people kept talking about him like he was the most amazing person in the world and his love interest was so lucky to have him interested in her and I didn't see it that way and just got sick of hearing it. But I kept my mouth shut because I knew people would say it was because of my ship preferences. (Even now I'm afraid to say who it was lest other fans come out and argue with me.) So yeah, I don't see this issue as dependent on gender.

Thanks! Sometimes you just have your own reasons and know it'll be taken as a shipping thing.

Sometimes I get annoyed about how quick people are to dismiss other people's fandom preferences as self-interested: I'd much rather hear quirky, totally personal reasons for feeling like a character rubs someone the wrong way than have that be lost to the assumption that, if you ship something else, dislike must just be because the one contradicts the other. No.

Everyone knows this about themselves, but it seems like, in a lot of places, we've lost the room to assume it about each other.

Yeah, I personally hate the female half of one canon het ship because I hate characters who won't take 'no, I don't want to go out with you' as an answer, male or female. It's gross and creepy when male characters do it and just as gross and creepy when female characters do it, but somehow we're supposed to find it cute and endearing when it's a girl I guess.

Oh I HATE that

(DA, if that wasn't obvious.)
