I feel like this is 50% true and 50% untrue

What ABO takes to its logical conclusion is the feelings and responses that people have to top and bottom roles in fictional relationships. But that's not intrinsically discourse - it only turns into discourse when people take those preferences and start talking as though they have real significance over and above preferences in fictional relationships

AYRT Yeah, unfortunately it has a solid overlap with heteronormativity and after being asked more than once, IRL, which of us is "the man" and "how do you know who [does gendered household task]?" I have no patience for that.

Well, again - it doesn't intrinsically have to overlap with heteronormativity. Fundamentally it's a set of preferences people have for relationships in fic. Obviously for a lot of people it does overlap with heteronormativity and, yeah, that's obviously one big reason some people are going to dislike it, but there is a distinction there.

AYRT Yes, that's why I said "I don't like A/B/O" not "nobody should like A/B/O". For me, it overlaps with heteronormativity in a way I strongly dislike. This may not be the case for everybody, but I have not yet found an A/B/O fic where it hasn't, so I'm happy to say this genre is not for me.

This. The only time I've liked A/B/O is when it deliberately flouts expectations. Female alphas, dominant omegas, etc.
