I think they are talking about alt text in secrets, some people provide it if there is too much text or font is unreadable. A bit less shitty, since probably visually impaired people do not go to this community, it's too heavily depends on pictures. But still shitty frankly

I don't think I've ever seen anyone provide alt text for their secret, just transcripts - and that's awesome of them, but not expected, since this community has never exactly been accessible in that way...

The mention of alt text rather than transcripts makes me think they weren't talking about this community that's never used alt text and for a more or less viable reason - it came about well before that accessibility was really talked about or made standard (and now that it is, it's sort of a lot to put on case, who already does so much for this community).

The other explanation I was thinking of for the "I never use alt text" bit is that OP didn't know what it's actually for and remembers when accessibility for the web wasn't so widely considered. A lot of people used it solely as an easter egg sort of thing if you hover over an image or don't have images loaded, like there's a punchline to the joke in the image, or a "secret message". And if they think that's why people use alt text, it sort of makes sense in the context of the secret? But uh... that's not actually what alt text is for.

(I sorta may have jumped on the chance to mention this because I work as a web dev in the education sector and we actually can get penalized by various institutions if we don't use alt text/aria labels on our site's images. It's a very simple thing that helps a lot of people! So if OP was unaware of this, thought I'd explain.)

You are probably right. I just thought maybe they confused alt text/transcripts. I do sometime confuse some terms if they are used for similar enough things. But probably I am being to charitable.
