This. It's exactly the same for me. LMS introduced me to Steve Carrel and I fell in love with him. But then I saw him in Evan Almighty and.. D:

That's how I feel about most comedians. Like I hate Will Farrell, I HATE, HATE him but than I saw Stranger than Fiction where he was...good.

And when people say Adam Sandler only make bad movies I get kinda defensive (besides the fact I like most of his movies, even the stupid ones) cause I loved him in Spanglish. That movie was so good.

I'm amazed people can watch The Office and not see what a good actor he is. Because Michael is not just the same stupid Anchorman kind of character, it's a role that has a huge range of emotion (and idc how silly it seems, the fact that he can burst into tears as Michael is impressive to me), and he has a way of just... perfectly inhabiting a character that seems like someone it would be hard to ~become~. So I agree, I think Steve is a fabulous actor, and LMS proves it to people who think that all comedy acting is automatically crap.

I'd say he's a good actor more for things like Anchorman and The Office than Little Miss Sunshine.

Put on a beard and some scars, stare off to left of camera and look slightly disappointed in everything. BAM! Oscar Nomination. (See Hanks, Tom, circa Philadelphia.)

Make lines like "I think I ate your chocolate squirrel" funny, scream for that long while holding a grenade without breaking character, commit to being that stupid for two hours. BAM! Box office, but nobody thinks you're "acting." (See Hanks, Tom, circa Splash.)

He is way better than anyone realizes at everything he does. As the great Donald Wolfit said, "Dying is Easy. Comedy is Hard." Don't ever discount a man because he makes you laugh, no matter how infantile it is.

Steve Carell is very talented. I think he's way more talented than those guys that mostly do stupid comedies. (I won't mention who I mean b/c WOW that would be wanktastic later, I'm sure.) I don't know how anyone thinks Steve can't act, though. :|

I wish he'd do more movies that had actual merit.

Nobody can convince me that Carell isn't one of the most amazingly brilliant understated actors out there. And I know he himself would think I'm crazy, but seriously I think he's so good and so underrated as an actor (never mind drama or comedy).

I also can't imagine anyone who doesn't think that Anchorman is a modern classic made of absolute awesome. So he plays a retard, yes, but I think there are very few things as funny as Brick in this world. And if you don't think so, I WILL FIGHT YOU.

Evan Almighty is an entirely different thing. But if you listened to him talk, you'd know that Carell is happy to just have a job, so I can't really blame him when he's working as hard as he always is but the movie turns out to be complete shit ( and I don't think Bruce Almighty is much better). I believe Bewitched is much more horrid, btw.

Anyway, anyone who watches The Office US, or has seen LMS or Dan in Real Life (or Get Smart, if you ask me) should have taken notice of how engaging and talented Carell is. If not, sod 'em.

For me it was The 40-Year-Old Virgin. I know it's not as serious as his role in LSM, but I was honestly impressed at the humanity he brought to a character who could've just been broad and goofy. I can't bring myself to watch Evan Almighty. I know a paycheck's a paycheck but it makes me sad to see talented people do mediocre stuff.

*shrug* I adore Steve Carrel in every role he plays. When he's playing a stupid character, I still think it's hilarious. He started out with silly movies like Bruce Almighty and Anchorman. From there, he's gone on to do more serious work. I don't think he's cheating himself out of anything.
