I guarantee, if she'd been made a cast member, she'd have ended up with some sort of plot or what have you that would have people instead making secrets saying "I hate what they did to Gwen when they made her a part of the cast."

You're probably right about this. Overexposure to Spike is what made me go from thinking he was 'the shit' on BtVS (seriously, in season 2 I loved him sfm) to thinking that he was a piece of shit on Angel.

That being said, I would have liked to have gotten the chance to know Gwen and then hate Gwen, instead of just having ample time to nurse my already established hate of Spike. At least with Gwen, there would have been some good times in the beginning.

Seriously? I thought the lack of Buffy around (other than the stupid fighting between him and Angel over her - and I say this as a Spike/Buffy shipper) brought back a bit of the old Spike back, or at least made an attempt to. Still souled and willing to do good, but not because of love. Shit, Spike's jump to Angel is part of the reason I made sure to catch every episode. But, obviously, ymmv.

But on topic, I can see what you're saying, but I'll still say that while you wish you'd have had the chance now, it might be better to be thankful there wasn't, in the same way that you evidently lost your love for Spike due to the same change.
