Personally, I wasn't so much a fan of the anime death scene. The manga packed far more of a punch.

The manga made me cry like a dropped drunk. I would fangirl that entire series with both barrels if I didn't fear losing my composure and terrifying anyone I was speaking to. Serious, deep, influencing I-would-write-my-thesis-by-this-if-I-could-figure-out-how love for Trigun Maximum.

Oh hells yes. Trigun had a few problems here and there, but overall I think the manga was spectacularly written and it's definitely one of my all time favorites.

I'm putting my fingers in my ears and going 'lalalala' at your 'was'. I still haven't bought the final volume of Trigun Maximum partly out of reason of funds, and partly out of not wanting it to come to an end. If that manga had been drawn by CLAMP, Japan and most of coastal China would have been vaporized already.

And from the totally opposite point of view..

flipping through channels, I saw Wolfwood's death scene on Adult Swim. It was the first thing of anime I had ever seen in my life, and it made me cry. I knew nothing about the character or show, but the scene was so moving. And that is why Trigun remains one of my all time favorite shows.
