It's really not Phil's fault any more than it's Cinemasins fault. The nitpicking instinct has been present in geeks and nerds and fans as long as there's been geeks and nerds and fans. Sometimes dormant, but always present. The key is just to make sure you don't take it too seriously.

(also, jeesh what a blast from the past!)

Cinemasins is more at fault for the deterioration of media criticism becoming just pointing out mistakes for some people in a pocket of the internet. More than Phil at least, so I feel this wasn’t the best comparison.

I’m not saying all of media criticism has deteriorated to becoming nitpicks and inconsistencies btw. Just with their fanbase. And the words these people use are taken directly from Cinemasins’ nonsense. They’re never going to ruin the movie industry or criticism as a whole, but their effect isn’t completely harmless.

But admittedly, they’re not the only ones who caused similar surface level critiques to become more in vogue with some people. Sites like TV Tropes also had a similar effect on another group of people before Cinemasins. And I still really like TG Tropes overall, so I’m also not saying that effect truly hurt criticism. Same with Phil.

IDK, I think - at most - Cinemasins gave people a common vocabulary to use when doing what they were going to do anyway

It's still very annoying mind you

Fair enough, you have a point.
