I'm not sure Phil is to blame. He's nothing like the current brand of criticize everything and hate-watching. He clearly loved the Star Trek shows even as he was nitpicking them. He wasn't hate watching.

IDK about anyone else, but the more I love something, the more I want to also dig into what I DON'T like about it. Like, if I think the show was great but that this one character's plot arc got wrapped up too quickly, I'm going to bitch about that because the show would have been so much better if they'd just changed that one thing!
