(Anonymous) 2022-12-13 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)No, I think what they're saying is that since antis tried to turn "not shipping anything problematic" into this holier-than-thou moral statement, people who just like gentle, sunshine ships for their own reasons can be self-conscious that other fans will think they like it in a judgey way. And some of the pushback against antis winds up being unintentionally scornful of vanilla shipping. Out of frustration at being demonized, mostly. Anyone who ships hero/villain openly is doing that despite the social shit they get for it. Despite being told that it would be so much BETTER if their favorite thing didn't exist, and lightfic were all that was available. And that makes it hard to maintain the view that what we don't go for (and aren't going to) is not inherently bad, we're just sick of the pushiness. Because you've got jerks trying to argue that enjoying moral complexity and empathizing with dark characters is a sign of mental illness - sometimes in so many words.
