I think there are two separate issues going on in this secret.

First, "Why would people watch a show that they admit isn't very good?" And the best answer I can give you is that something can be entertaining without being very good, and vice versa. Schindler's List was a very good movie, but most people don't watch it for fun. On the other hand, many people have watched The Room multiple times, with multiple groups of people or on their own, exclusively for fun. And the vast majority of those people would never tell someone who hadn't seen it that The Room is a good movie. And yes, these are two extremes. But sometimes you want a "good dessert" and sometimes you just want to eat a can of frosting even though you know that's kind of gross.

The second issue seems to be "but why would shipping be your thing you enjoy?" And that's completely subjective. Personally, I find people who enjoy things for the shipping more understandable than people who enjoy golf, but people pay actual money to watch the US Open every year because it makes them happy. Different strokes and all that.
