people have observed that a lot of how jkr characterized the goblins in the hp books seems to have been lifted wholesale from various anti-semitic stereotypes and propaganda

Honestly not surprising. But the mythological goblins were kind of rooted in antisemitism, so it didn't start with her.

This, JKR is an awful person for her transphobia and has shown various other unexamined biases, but the antisemitism dogwhistle accusations are a reach. So is the whole centaurs and Umbrage discourse. Just because she's said and written lots of harmful things doesn't mean everything she's ever said and wrote was done with harmful intent.

Funny how nobody said anything about that until the transphobia came out. I have friends who were huge HP fans, a couple of them Jewish and very vocal about the rise of antisemitism in our country's politics, who read the books over and over and looked up to JKR until a few people on the internet dug up the "Goblins are antisemitic and JKR should have known better" story. You're retconning how much awareness people had of this kind of thing because can't accept that JKR hasn't always been obviously evil in every way.

People have said this sporadically throughout the long years of the HP fandom being in existence. Some people criticized JKR's "Dumbledore was gay" announcement on the basis that she didn't include it in the text too. Again, just because these criticisms are now amplified due to JKR's more recent infamy doesn't mean they never existed.
