I actually love DT but tbh The Doctor is probably contender for one of my least favourite roles of his. I think I prefer him when he's doing drama* or stage work overall. I know as long as you live you never stop "being" The Doctor as an actor who has done it, but I was kinda enjoying him trying to branch out into other things.

*(Although this goes wrong sometimes, I hated Deadwater Fell.)

I wasn't very fond of Deadwater Fell either but I did like There She Goes.

I've actually not got around to that one! But having looked up the broadcast dates, the first series was the tail end of when I'd kinda fallen away from keeping up with everything in his career for a year or two so that makes sense that I missed it.

I feel really weird recommending Des given the subject matter but he is good in that. My husband grew up not an especially huge distance away from where Nilsen was from and said DT got the accent scarily spot on despite not being from that part of Scotland himself.

I was thinking of watching Des. This may be my push to finally do it.

If it helps at all, there are no scenes where you see any of the murders and they don't linger in his flat very long when he's arrested. It's all about him getting caught and people trying to get justice for the men who were killed. The court scenes are still hard but I was thankful for no gratuitous flashbacks to exactly what he did.

It's the sort of thing where you'll watch it once, really appreciate the performances (Tennant isn't the only good thing about it) but never want to see it ever again. Like, you know it's good but there's no way you'll ever think "I think I'll rewatch Des" - I'd queue up something fun and light for afterwards though!
