Re: Looks like it's going to be one of those nights on FS

As someone who's been called a TERF previously around here over literally nothing I truly have no fucking idea where some get that from.

(before anyone asks, the secret about Michiru with a side-note vaguely complaining about Sailor Moon being heteronormative since, uh, the only 2 gay couples - only 1 of which was manga-canon - in a series about "love" with dozens of het couples have one person who's often read by the fandom as being the opposite gender and look like any het shojo couple, not liking the pattern apparently makes me "transphobic" lol)

Frankly, the resident transphobe seems to be a troll who knows how to burn this place.

Don’t start that again. I don’t think you’re a TERF for that, but you were still working on a faulty premise by saying Haruka/Michiru was part of Sailor Moon’s heteronormativity just because Haruka is sometimes described similarly to being genderfluid. No matter what, a lesbian couple isn’t heteronormative, no matter how much they stick to a butch/femme dynamic. And a genderfluid person dating a lesbian or bisexual women would also never be heteronormative. Words have meanings.

DA

Thank you! Smh at AYRT for failing to learn anything from that debacle and now trying to pull some historical revisionism on their opinion.

Re: Looks like it's going to be one of those nights on FS

It's not historical revisionism, though of course I was ANGRY about having my words read as they wanted over and over. It's about recalling how some people in here throw "TERF" around like it's punctuation and choose to assume the worst and be offended and give others flak for it. ("Words have meanings" but some people are ESL and not good at communicating, not considering this is what "assuming the worst" means.)

("Haruka/Michiru was part of Sailor Moon’s heteronormativity just because Haruka is sometimes described similarly to being genderfluid" is NOT something I intended to say. Rather it was "in fanworks/readings where Haruka is trans male that isn't a lesbian couple" period. And then people went "WHAT ABOUT THE ENBIES??" and called me out and I got flak for being uneducated on a point I couldn't care less about. Not caring about certain discourses and being TERF *should be* different things though. All I meant was "if one person doesn't identify as a woman in any way, shape or form it's not a lesbian couple" and that was somehow controversial.)

Weird to me that a place like this would be accused of being a transphobe haven so for all I know maybe "you're a TERF" anon and TERF anon are the same troll and they're having fun. Likely.

I know you’re ESL, you said as much back then. But it’s still on you to remember the multitude of corrections you were given back in that secret thread. Some of the people who corrected you and engaged you in good faith were ESL too. It did sound a bit like revisionism. But I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. However, if you phrase it like you did in your first comment here, it is going to sound like you’re still saying that, that you think a lesbian couple could be heteronormative. If you don’t think that, and would like to move on from all that, that’s fine. I’ll respect that.

Again, I’m not calling you transphobic or a TERF. I don’t really see reason to think that. I know you weren’t saying I was accusing you of that, you were just talking about the people that called you that and in what way. But I wanted to reiterate that I wasn’t saying that just to be clear, because this place has been crazy today.

I can believe there are some people who are genuinely transphobic here. And I can believe that there are some people who are genuinely overzealous in trying to stamp out any potential transphobia they think they see, even if there’s little to no evidence of it. So I don’t believe that everyone is trolling. But I can definitely believe that some of the people here were trolling. And it’s not impossible that some of those trolls were trying to play both sides to make the conflict worse. I just don’t personally think the majority were trolls. I know too well how bad transphobia still is in the world. F!S is not a transphobic place just because there are transphobic people, though. The amount of people countering the bigotry and hate with the facts proves that.

All that said, the troll that calls people TERFs just for even mentioning HP, even to just talk about memories and not to praise it’s author, is annoying. They even hang around in threads unrelated to HP sometimes. They also like to overuse the term ‘dogwhistle’, which is another one that has a specific meaning. TERF dogwhistles definitely exist, but the troll seems to make them up occasionally, because nobody who would recognize them does when they mention them sometimes. It’s frustrating that they’re trying to devalue actual issues seemingly just to annoy people.

That's a bit of a silly thing to even assume someone could be saying, though, which is why (again) I said "assume the worst". On whatever was mistakenly said which I was sorry about the context was that Sailor Moon is shoujo manga, shoujo manga aesthetics traditionally favor couples that *look* straight regardless of being or not (because it's cartoon, cartoons can actually look/act/seem fully like the opposite gender, etc). Of course it's an entire different situation from real people and absurd and sad to me that anyone would assume that.

Well... could be, but some takes are downright psycho and seem to beg for wank. No one knows (only Case maybe, maybe even Case doesn't because fake ips). But I don't disagree with anything you said, it's possible.

NAYRT

It’s not a silly thing to assume because that’s what you specifically said in your secret that you were referencing. It’s shady to pretend people are just misinterpreting or reading into your words when they can read them clearly and there’s not much ambiguity to them. You can claim it’s because of a shoujo manga aesthetic. But that’s not a justification for calling a lesbian couple heteronormative, which you did. And nobody is saying that you think real life lesbian couples could be heteronormative. So there’s nothing sad or absurd about anyone’s reactions but yours. But even if they’re not real it’s still ridiculous to call a lesbian couple heteronormative. It’s not assuming the worst it’s reading what you have said yourself. You seem determined to double down that you’ve never said Haruka/Michiru was a heteronormative ship when you very much did. This is why you were accused of revisionism. Because you’re trying to claim you didn’t say something everyone here who saw your secret knows you did. You’re trying to gaslight the people here. Unintentionally or not. You might think you can benefit from the fact that it’s been some months since but nobody has forgotten your secret or the discourse where you flip-flopped on taking accountability for your words and actions. You are making it harder on yourself than anyone else to move on by trying to sweep your words under the rug.

Can you just not? None of this is necessary.

NAYRT, but unlike the "this person disagrees with me and therefore they're a troll," not-trolls, "OK, TERF" troll is literally trolling the comm. They're being frustrating on purpose. They're devaluing the issue on purpose, possibly to stir up shit for their own entertainment and probably because they're one of the radfem anons who specifically benefits from devaluing the issue. Unfortunately, since f!s is the comm that cried wolf when it comes to trolling, most people here have forgotten how to just ignore actual trolls until they go away.

True. I hate that as well.

Hah. About your last theory, I wouldn't rule it out.
