I liked BotW as an original experience, I felt like it was a great game with a great story. But it’s not even remotely in my top 5 favorite Zelda games. Because honestly, I’ve always loved the formula of the previous Zelda games, and I never wanted a change. I get people wanting things that have been strictly formulaic mixed up a bit, but I also don’t personally get it when it comes to the Legend of Zelda. I don’t personally get why anyone who considers themselves a fan of the franchise wanted a game to come around that was basically familiar characters in a completely different experience than the others. Why a game that doesn’t feel like a Zelda game to me in a lot of ways was what they wanted and fell all over themselves to praise because it was so different. Especially because I felt like each game that came before it was different enough from the last to justify it’s existence, and make it fun and cool, without being too much of a departure from the series. Idk, it’s a really irrational feeling I have about it, because I would be agreeing with people that a big change from formula is a good thing that was needed, if it wasn’t Zelda. That’s why I say that I get it from a general perspective, but don’t from a personal/fellow Zelda fan perspective.
