God, I feel this so hard. Every year, come October, I sit down and start a list of things that I would like for Christmas. I take care that it's easily accessible stuff, in every price range and keeping everyone's sensibilities in mind (my aunt, for example, Does Not Approve of manga and will not buy it, even if I explicitly ask for it).

And then, come Christmas, I'll inevitably get at least one random-ass gift definitely not on the list for god knows what reason. Like in 2019, when I got a Star Wars themed 4GB(!!!) USB stick, when I already got dozens of USB sticks in a drawer at home, all of them bigger than 4GB, AND I don't even like Star Wars and never have.

The books were on the list for you, aunt! They were inoffensive murder mysteries! Just stick to the damn list!
