The only thing I know about him is that he upset a lot of people the Hallow'een after Steve Irwin died by dressing up as Steve with a sting ray barb in his chest, tacky and tasteless IMO

The only thing I know him from is some documentary about religion--I think it was called Religulous or something, it was kind of a weird title. The trailer was enough to let me know it was not something I wanted to see. He asked Christians, Muslims, etc. etc. questions about why they believed in a god and such and did so in a very pompous, patronizing way. I think it's rather rude to make fun of people's religion, and from seeing that I think it's somewhat reasonable to assume he's at least a little self-righteous (and kind of annoying).

I felt the same way about the film until I saw it. I actually found him more likable in Religilous than I have in anything else. He's agnostic like me, though sometimes he seems like an atheist.

He's most well known for his show Politically Incorrect, which was cancelled b/c of some remarks he made after 9/11 (comments that many people share nowadays, btw) and now he has a show on HBO that is very similar to PI.

He also does stand-up comedy.

There are a few things I disagree with him on and sometimes he pisses me off, but I agree with him on some things.

Yeah, I did hear that the trailer was a bit misleading--and that the actual film had some insight and wasn't just a let's-watch-some-guy-be-a-jerk "documentary." But to be honest, the trailer really put me off. I think if I ever were to see it, it might be quite a few years into the future--after I've forgotten the lousy impression the trailer made.

That's true. I agree 100% with the last sentence. I guess, for me, the issue is that it seems most people aren't capable of making fun of things and still respecting them to some extent (most times, that is). To be fair, I make fun of Mormonism rather frequently. I don't feel bad about either, because regardless of whether I make fun of it, I still respect it and my father's side of the family is Mormon.

The problem is that most people don't seem to respect the religion/lack of religion that they make fun of. So in that case, I think the second best option is to try to respect everyone's views and try to lead by example.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with him making a film calling people out on their half-baked beliefs,actually, but as someone that hasn't seen his documentary, I heard that it tends to single out certain religions and give a free-pass to others, which seems kind of sketch.

This movie? I saw it and iirc it mostly focuses on Christians and some Muslims, but it's not that he gives some religions a free pass, more that some people just come across better than others. I think in the commentary he points out that the people who have a sense of humor themselves are usually a lot more reasonable.

I just don't like how he has half-baked beliefs of his own, not entirely based on reason. Like his militant anti-vax anti-medicine point of view. And his diatribe against public breastfeeding. Just like, his overall "Look at these idiots, har har, glad I'm not like that" when he is exactly that, attitude pisses me off.
