The theme is amazing. I'll turn it there just to hear the music, tbh.

My fav source for true crime stories are official police reports. Everything else sucks. Too many lies

(Anonymous) 2023-01-05 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
lol

(Anonymous) 2023-01-05 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. Official police reports are fairly bias and skewed and often have a good amount of lies too.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-05 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHA good one.

This reminds me of a Last Week Tonight segment about the police and media's symbiosis. It was rather cutting.

I just go to the courthouse and interrogate the witnesses under oath myself.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-05 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Weak! I astral travel back in time and watch the crime happen personally.

As if the cops aren't regularly sloppy or lie often.

Found the copfucker tho.

Plus, true crime television shows don't have people applying their makeup while they talk about a family of five being brutally murdered in their quaint Midwestern suburban home.

I mean, I remember an A&E true crime show mangling the name of a (then) local county. Just completely wrong pronounciation. I get how they got there, but it shows they obviously didn't pass along something as simple as how a local name is pronounced to the host of the show.

Podcasts and Youtube channels are not necessarily better (actually I agree that most of them are trash), but just because something has a bigger budget doesn't mean it's going to fuck up less.

I mean... there's no guarantee that a bigger budget and a large, professional staff (I emphasize that part because I think it's important) means zero screw ups, but come on. Chances are they're going to fuck up less than some dude filming in his basement as a hobby. That's not exactly a controversial suggestion there.

Meh. I find most network funded shows like 48 Hours or 20/20 can be just as sensationalized and leaning too hard on police reports/narratives. No investigation show or department is perfect, just remember to take a lot of this stuff with a grain of salt

This is basically the reason the only true crime podcast I can stand is Casefile. They do the research, like you said, and even make the effort to pronounce names correctly. Plus, it's narrative style, so it avoids the insensitivity of the conversational style true crime podcasts.

Casefile is the gold standard of true crime podcasts, bar none.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-05 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Casefile is the best! I've tried so many other true crime podcasts but they were unprofessional or insensitive or poorly researched or or or... There are other ones that people recommend that are supposedly similar to Casefile but they tend to be more opinionated or I just can't follow the narrator's voice.
