I see your point, but I think politicians should serve the country and its people as a whole, not just the voters who elected them. Otherwise they're just lobbyists.

To use a hopefully less charged example: an elected official from the Green Party might set out to close coal mines - but that doesn't mean they get to ignore the miners who would be out of jobs, or the communities who rely on the mines, or the gap in the energy grid if the mines were taken off without something to fill in.
Are the miners likely to be the people who voted for a Green Party official? No, but that official now serves all the citizens of the country, including the ones who didn't vote for them, because that's part of the job.

Yeah, that's a lovely notion, but unfortunately in the US, they tend to serve party-over-people (some of them). It skews harder on the GOP side. One of my state's Senator's DOESN'T LIVE IN THE STATE - he used his sisters address to run. And every vote he makes is just party-line GOP bullshite. It's infuriating.
