I never would have called Mike as the most popular in the fandom! That feels like hipster reclaiming, very rockist, driven by him being a good songwriter, elephant parts, etc. But that's just speculation on my part.

My favorite was totally Peter. I got into them when MTV started reairing them in the mid 80s and then they reformed and went on tour—and I saw them! They were pretty awesome.

I saw that tour too, and the MTV reruns. Very fun!

Though I saw it with a friend who was a Mike obsessive (though he wasn't on tour with the rest) I think Peter was my favorite too.

I liked Davy the best at the time, but now...I don't know. I actually saw 'Head' on TV last year sometime and I wasn't feeling the same Davy-crush I used to. I guess some crushes just don't stand the test of time. But I still enjoyed watching.

Haha, my roommate, a Monkees fan from wayback, is a Mike fanatic. She made me watch the show with her and kept saying "isn't he the cutest? Isn't he adorable?"

All I could think was, Mickey's obviously got the best ass... heh. And that grin!

I'm a Mickey fan too! I can't stand Mike, just re: his attitude when the group was splitting up, and afterward during reunion tours. I got to see the Monkees sans-Mike perform twice probably a decade ago and it was *sooooo* much fun. Although Mike as Princess Gwen gets me EVERY TIME ha.

They are all great, but as I was never in the fandom I can't possibly imagine Mike would be everyone's fave. Sure wasn't when I grew up with the show. Mike was my fave (even if I want to slap him sometimes in real life) my mom was with Davy and my sister. Mickey. Now I just like all of them, and particularly am amused that Mickey sort of sounds like the lead singer from Tool. I digress.

Personally, Mike is my favorite, with Peter in 2nd. But I don't care if someone else doesn't like him. He is popular in the fandom but I've never seen anyone get upset over someone preferring a different Monkee.

You're not paying attention, then, OP. Lately it's all about Micky and Davy, with Mike and Peter taking a back seat. Just like in the good old days. It's one of the reasons I don't hang around the fandom much any more. Trust me, post in the comms and squee about Micky and make fun of Mike, you'll be at home.
