I moved to Scotland in 2011 when Hogmanay TV was kinda already dying (if not dead already) - Only an Excuse limped on for another few years but that was about it. There was a sketch show of some description on this last Hogmanay where it was a case that a couple of moments raised a chuckle but for the most part it was dire. Does feel like I missed out.

Only an Excuse was always crap, Chewin' The Fat's Hogmanay specials were almost as good as Fulton's Scotch and Wry, but the rest of the Hogmanay tv keeps getting worse. They used to put on a big party, but this year they were so determined to air their own sparkly graphic that they even missed the gun being fired. Yeah, you missed out. Sorry :'(

Aye, Only an Excuse was another of those things where one or two sketches I saw were funny but the rest was MEH. My husband complained all the time saying that the main guy obviously couldn't be arsed to learn any new impressions so was recycling stuff that was old when he (my husband that is) was a kid!

I love Chewin' the Fat and Still Game but obviously watched those after the fact. I'm glad the Still Game team weren't convinced to do a new Hogmanay special though, because the comeback series wasn't as good as the original run and we were both glad when they decided to end it again.
