I am far too into analysing why people hate Lewis, but the reason I keep coming back to is racism - whether overt or subconscious. My own mother, when I mentioned him too her, called him 'arrogant', which when referring to a successful black man is just... ugh. It's definitely not the only reason - winning everything will never gain you all the fans - but it's a BIG one.

The Vettel comparison is extra interesting - he started gaining fans and getting less hate when he stopped giving a shit in his last year at Ferrari and started focussing more on his causes. Sure, he still gets labelled a SJW by the homophobes, misogynists, and climate change deniers, but overall his stock went up. Lewis has a bad year and champions POC and womens' rights and still gets vitriol at every turn.
