Huh. Thinking it's not a good song is an unpopular opinion?

Personally, I though it was an okay song. Then The Sweetest Thing forever ruined it for me. I can't listen to it now without laughing.

Yeah I thought that song was considered not exactly one of Aerosmith's best, not only is it sappy and bland but it's exactly the type of song people aren't interested in seeing from that band. It did well in the Adult Contemporary charts but that is not their traditional demographic.

DA

I remember reading a review of the song on the old Epinions website where the headline said something to the effect of, "Congratulations on hitting #1, guys, but uhhhhhhh...". Which I imagine was probably the view of many of their fans at that time, yes :p.

Oh it definitely was. My college roommate was a diehard Aerosmith fan and her take on that one was pretty much "we all have bills to pay, I guess." Didn't it immediately get covered by a second rate country singer too? At the time, no one was pretending there was any artistic integrity involved here - it was a charts-friendly song written for a blockbuster film starring Steve Tyler's daughter and it did what it was meant to do.

Oh, god, yeah, I do seem to remember some country artist covering that, now you mention it. Looking it up, it says Mark Chestnut did a cover. Man, there's a name I haven't heard in some time...

oh yeah totally. like, are you actually shocked that an AC ballad written by Diane Warren which was recorded as the "love theme" for a major blockbuster movie was kinda meh but also clearly #1 bait? you are? oh, I'm sorry.

(not YOU, anon, OP is more like it. OP, are you really shocked or just taking the piss out of us?)

I just disliked the movie.

It's one of my guilty pleasure movies but emphasis on the guilty - it's not a good film. And not a great song either, though to be fair I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan in the first place. I guess some people may get defensive about the song but I'm happy to say I don't know any.

I like Aerosmith a lot but that's not one of their better songs IMHO. My favorite song of theirs is Pink, which I liked so much I used in a fanfic.
