Have to agree, anon. I have so many fond memories from lurking that fandom, way back when people made character shrines on personal pages and linked them together in webrings because search engines did not reliably find anything yet. I was so elated to see that the fandom was apparently full of people who wanted Jareth and Sarah to live and love forever. With zero bickering like "but he's the bad guy" or "but the actress was fifteen" or anything. There were piles of great fic, no one was trying to tell anyone else the right way to behave in fandom, and the overall vibe of generosity and friendliness was just incredible.

Hell, yeah. IIRC people just nodded and were like, "Yup, he's the bad guy but totally hot so we'll write fics about how he redeems himself" and "Yup, underage is no good so in this fic Sarah is a grown up with her own life and is prepared to face down her old love/enemy" and "here's how Jareth and Sarah navigate their new and more equal power balance and fall in love". So much better than outrage and throwing the baby out with the bath water!

There were a lot of questionable content, but I think this was the fandom for me to ask myself why this things maybe not that romantic. There were a lot of wonderful fics with Sarah being more grown up and assured of herself. Fun time
