That would be an interesting strategy, but in this analogy the royal family would be the "auditors"? That's where it breaks down. They're infamous for trying to cover stuff up no matter what, not airing dirty laundry as revenge.

There are definitely people in the orbit of the royal family who leak stuff to the press. Almost certainly, some of that leaking is done to shape an agenda, because that's what always happens when people are leaking stuff to the press.

The stuff that Harry revealed absolutely could have been leaked to the press in the future by people who wanted Harry to look bad. And it seems plausible that people around the royal family would want Harry to look bad - like, why do you think they would still care about protecting his reputation even before the publication of this book?

This all just seems really optimistic about how the monarchy does things basically

One of the claims Harry makes is that in the past they leaked his dirty laundry to cover other more detestable royal scandals and that this was part of the reason they were not giving Megan any privilege of cover, because she was convenient foil to avoid other media questions. You can decide how true that is, but this tactic was literally one he already mentioned as something they did.
