I have seen this a lot with my tiny fandoms over the years and it can be annoying because it wasn’t what I was looking for but hard agree that anyone can write what they want. I just get sad sometimes when no one wants to write what I most want to read.

Yes I am in tiny fandoms and a couple of them have actors who were in other, bigger fandoms so everyone wants to cross them over. And I get it, but since the fandoms are so small it doesn’t leave much fic for me. I’m going to try to write stuff I like and see if I get any kind of audience for it.

Those types of crossovers can be a lot of fun if you’re in the mood but they don’t scratch every itch.

Good luck with your fic! I wrote a smutty one shot last summer for my favourite pairing because there was ONE fic of their pairing and they were random background characters in some 200+ chapter megaverse thing. Now there are five real fics counting my own :)
