I read a fic with author's favorite character falling into a different universe and replacing herself there. She is extremely unhappy in canon in abusive relationships etc etc. So she sleeps with this new shiny husband, convinces her new children that she is their mummy don't worry children it's me my darlings. She had a chance to go back to her universe, but said "nah I don't want to". Happy end.
And author gleefully commenting we shouldn't worry about original character from this good universe she is more adjusted so she can get her children and husband once again. I just

As in she switched places with an existing character from another canon universe? Or was it an original universe full of OCs that the writer made up for the fic?

She switched places with herself from another happier timeline. Most characters were from canon, but with some differences because it's an AU. Children are OCs

(sorry writing about timey-wimey universe-switcheroo is a bit confusing)
Anyway, fic was tagged as fluff and I was expecting main character to see a different timeline where she is happy and learn that she can be happy too. Or something like this. Instead I've got the horror story where doppelganger abducted woman's children and husband and manipulated them to think that she is their mother and wife.
