Ina-pro-pro!

What?

I'm the opposite - it's basically Major Character Death for me, so I need them to go back to their original age for a happy ending to really enjoy it.

I did read a Stargate:Atlantis one where Rodney McKay was permanently deaged that I thought was great, though, because kid!Rodney wasn't cutesy or traumatised but instead was a really obnoxious, intelligent, awkward teen that you could see would grow into the adult!version of himself. I've forgotten who it was by, but I was really absorbed by how they explored it; not everyone was on board with him staying young, some people missed his old self, some were glad to see the back of adult!Rodney, some had hope that slowly faded... it was really well done.

This, 100%. Personally my OTP is 95% of what I read fanfic for, so I don't read a lot of de-aged fics anyway, because it can be tough to do them in a way that doesn't give of shota vibes (shota's not my scene), yet still manages to cater to the ship in some way.

But even if I wasn't in it for my OTP, I think I would still be pretty distressed by permanent de-aging, because even though a variant of the character is still alive, you are permanently losing the variant of the character you knew. I've never read a de-aging fic where it turned out to be permanent, but I remember years and years ago reading a long fic where one of the main characters got amnesia and forgot eight years, which was the entirety of the story up to that point. I foolishly presumed they'd get their memories back eventually, but they never did, and I'm still salty about it. (Of course I would never actually bug the author about it; they didn't do anything wrong. But nonetheless, I'm salty.)

Me too! It'd be interesting to see how they grow up again and what's different this time if at least some of his pre-de-aging friends are still around as adults. And it'd also be interesting to see how those friends have moved on.

It's hard to find this in gen, (because it's hard to find much non-shippy in general) so my first thought was 'wow, that'd be hard to explain to the folks'. Then I got caught up on if the de-aged character even had their ages memories, and everything spiralled downwards from there...
So! I guess I have another thing to add to my blacklist!
