I've recently decided to let go of a few friends and it's a secret like this as to why I let them go and question if I should make friends through fandoms anymore.

I really feel like some of my former friends only wanted to talk about non-fandom stuff unless they specifically are in a bad mood or they have no one to talk about fandom stuff with. Even then it felt like I had to watch a kid go "mom look at me run in the water!" at the beach and that was culmination of my time spent with them.

Like, I want to be your friend but I think you're looking for a parental figure who will always center you and never me.

So yeah, as someone who has dropped fandom and some fandom friends...it's sad to know some people aren't sad friendships are over. It wasn't easy to let my friends go but FR I realized I had to let some things and people go since I wasn't any happier. But I suppose the guilt doesn't weigh me down as much seeing a secret like this.

The pornbots didn't leave with the porn ban. They've been popping up on a semi-regular basis this whole time. They're spiking now because of the flood of gullible twitter refugees who refuse to report/block them because they think artificially increasing their follower count is a useful thing to do on tumblr. I do wish there was some way to nuke them from orbit, but this recent crop is, if anything, less graphic than the ones that were popping up during the ban. I haven't been followed by a collection of pussy pics in months - this batch of bots is mostly just bikini girls and word salad.

Ngl everyone kept telling me that Tumblr was dead when they first had the porn ban, but aside from the decrease in toxic people in the fandoms I followed (who had clearly run off to another site at the time); I barely noticed a difference from when Tumblr did allow it.

I...have not seen a single porn/nude/xxx post on Tumblr EVER unless it was an account I was actively following or looking at that was geared toward that.

I don't doubt there are bots and spam and all but...they seem to be avoiding me, big time, and for years.

From what I've experienced, there was only a small period of time where I was not getting followed by porn bots. Now it's a freaking daily thing though. I just wonder what they get out of this other than blocked. I do not understand their strategy, like do they get something just for people viewing their accounts long enough to block them, or are they trying to get more out of this?

I don't think the increase in bot follows is due to the rules changes. If anything it's due to Twitter becoming broken enough that even the pornbots are fleeing.

I have been seeing a lot more explicit spam in the popular tags, not all of it obvious scam bots, and that might partly be due to Tumblr being more friendly to sex now. But the solution there is to use the popular tags less.
