I don't know much about Star Trek, but why is Spock paired up with anyone at all in the movie, Uhura/Kirk/whoever? Aren't vulcans supposed to be the asexuals of the universe much of the time?

No. I think this is a common misconception brought about by the fact that they experience pon farr (it's like...mating season) once every seven years. This doesn't mean they don't have sex otherwise, but it led some fans to believe so and the misconception spread from there. In the original show, Spock had several romances and was even betrothed as all Vulcans are at an early age.

All of Spock's romances weren't really true, however. In "The Enterprise Incident" he seduces the Romulan commander so Kirk can steal the cloaking device technology. In "This Side of Paradise" he is under the influence of spores. In "All Our Yesterdays" Spock falls in love with Zarabeth because he is regressing into a much more emotional Vulcan.
