I will say, I totally get why some people were put off by Snuff and Raising Steam. They definitely feel a little less clever about what they're trying to say, a little too obvious.

I think The Shepherd's Crown is better than those two (possibly helped by Tiffany Aching being aimed at a younger audience), but in reading it you can tell it's not quite finished. It's sad, but I think Snuff and Raising Steam were Pterry still trying to rage against injustice, but The Shepherd's Crown is perhaps him seeing the end coming and thinking about legacy.
