What is their real life dynamic?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-01 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, OP, now I am intrigued

My friend went through something similar with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic (Castle). Oof.

Does your ship's actors hate each other, or did they have a fling that ended in a bad breakup?

Oh man. That completely ruined Fillion for me. Too bad he turned out to be a complete asshole in real life.

(Anonymous) 2023-02-02 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
For me too. :-/

Castle was my first thought while reading this, heh.

Yeah, finding out stuff like that is always a bummer. It doesn't always ruin my enjoyment of a show or pairing, but it certainly doesn't enhance the experience that's for sure!

Some instances bother me more than others. Like I can usually compartmentalize the knowledge that the leads don't really get along, but if it starts seeming really nasty and gross and like a potentially abusive work environment, then yikes, nope.

Like, there've always been mild rumors that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson didn't get along super well, which was a little bit disappointing, but not really a big deal. They clearly had a solid working relationship, regardless of whether or not they vibed as people most of the time, and it's extremely easy to get on someone's nerves when you are working 100 hour weeks with them. Then there's a situation like the one on Castle, which is a lot more of a bummer because it seems like the leads basically hated each other by the end. And then there's the really bad shit like what happened on Bull, where Weatherly was being a creepy sleaze and abusing his power to make uncomfortable and inappropriate comments and advances towards Eliza Dushku and undermine her on set. I never watched Bull, but if I had, I think that whole thing coming to light would've made it impossible to enjoy the show or the characters' interactions.

Really? I never heard that - the opposite if anything

Huh, weird, it's been one of those things that most x-philes are/were aware of, but generally just kind of shrugged over. The general narrative as acknowledged by the actors themselves is basically, "Yeah, we got on each other's nerves sometimes and we weren't friends outside of work, but when you spend that much time with your coworker it does weird things to your relationship." Nothing dramatic or unreasonable to it. I think it just felt like more of a big deal for some people because there's that desire to imagine them as very closer IRL, and the much more mundane reality becomes disappointing by contrast.

DA How I heard it was that they were perfectly fine workmates but not super good friends like a lot of fans wanted them to be (or more!) And they stood up for each other and the other actors during pay disputes which gets a lot of good will from me.

hearing about weatherly on bull kind of ruined him for me in other roles, yeah. i mentally deepfake him with chris pine while rewatching dark angel now.

Beavis and Butthead?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-02 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Are they a canon ship? Does Mike Judge somehow not get along with himself?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-02 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
The actors of Lorelei and Luke didn't like each other?

(Anonymous) 2023-02-02 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
There were rumors of a feud that's been stated as being 'overblown' by Lauren Graham and they tend to talk respectfully about each other when answering questions about the other, so you can take that as you will.

Oh man, I'm the same. I wish I could ignore things I find out about real life, and just be happy with the fiction, but it effects how I think about the fiction too. Thankfully my current cannon ship seems to be besties in real life. Fingers crossed.

I get it. I read somewhere that Padme and Tom (of Top Chef) don't really get along, and it's made me sad. I watch the show to see if I can see it; I don't like the thought!

But oh well.

This feels like a Castle secret lol

I can't watch anything with Nathan Fillion in it anymore, and I looooove Castle so much its my favourite show to read fanfic for, but I can't really rewatch it anymore. Especially the later seasons when its super obvious they didn't film scenes together.
