After that attention-grabbing title, I need your advice, please!

My brother's football team needs money because their club budget just is not enough for the new season. He asked me to advertise their patreon on social media, but the problem is, the audience of my social media is small - I have three subscribers here and about five on tumblr, not much of an advertisement...

Do you guys know any communities here or on LJ where people post they appeals for charity and ask for help?

I want to try to reach a larger audience somehow, although of course I understand that right now there are other things in the world that are more important than football as charity causes.

This sounds like one of those old school selling fundraising chocolates in your neighbourhood situations...

I don't know any communities, but reddit might be a good place to search?

Probably stating the obvious - have you tried asking local businesses for sponsorships and/or mentions on their social media, or calling the local radio stations to see if they'll give them a mention? Social media means you're competing with the world, after all, and local can be more effective than casting a global net for things like this. Sports grants are available, depending on where you are, too.

I mean, I work for a shopping centre and we've got around £30k in the budget just for local charities and community support, which includes smaller sports teams if they ask for it.
